I do get the occasional birdie but this one was on the fourth hole of the racecourse course.
It was with a 7 wood from about 210 yards after a drive that left me on the left of the fairway in light rough.
It was literally a birdie, as I struck the ball a bird flew up in front of me about 50 yards ahead, hit the bird full on and left it doing cartwheels down the course. Sadly it was so badly injured I had to put it out of it’s misery. I was somewhat squeamish but when I asked my playing partner (Another aged Brit) to do the dirty deed he ran away!
Now that most of the Japanese & Koreans have gone home looks like Lanna are out to screw those that would patronize the course for the rest of the year by changing sports day prices from 500baht including caddy to 700baht including caddy.
A kick in the teeth for the regulars and not very customer savvy! A very typically Thai response to having less players/tourists etc-put the prices up!
If you don’t mind teeing off after 12.30pm a much better deal and course by along way is Inthanon 700baht including caddy fee.
We went early on Friday to avoid the rush. Arrived at the par 3 tee off at 6.20am,still dark!
There was already a 2 ball and a four ball in front of us so we actually teed off in relative light.
The four ball in front of us were Japanese and they were almost as quick as us,a 2 ball, very little waiting on the tees.Thank goodness they weren’t Korean-maybe you know what I mean.
We completed the first 9 holes just after 8 am and moved to the racecourse course. There were already a few waiting to tee off,did I say a few,see the pics!
It was just crazy,30+ people waiting to tee off. We guessed it would be 30 to 45 minutes before we drove off!
Fortunately a Japanese couple were ahead of us in the queue which was mainly groups of 4 or 5 and we were asked to join them.Very nice people and spoke good English so communication was no problem.
So we played with Tanaka san and Tanaka san (Hope I got that right Mr & Mrs Tanaka?)
Mr Tanaka is in the picture of the tee along with my golf partner (an aged Brit (-:) and a few others.(sorry about the light, used a cameraphone to take the pics.)
Great company but it was a real chore playing at snails pace with groups of 4 and 5 ahead 10 mins wait at most tees. Not something I will want to repeat in the near future.
