You may have gathered my pet hate is 5 & 6’s playing.
Went early to Lanna today to avoid the crowds. Arrived at the first tee of the 1st nine, 6 players there, we asked the starter if we could go on as they had not teed off-nope! So went to the racecourse a couple of threesomes in front so relatively OK. Completed the 9 holes and returned to 1st nine, a five on the course with another 6 waiting to tee off!
Asked if we could play course 2-nope closed! Returned to the racecourse where an even earlier 6 had finished their first nine and were now in front of us. Switched to hole 7 of the racecourse played the 3 holes returned to the tee-and you guessed it there was another 6 in front of us!
Not that many groups on the course but I counted 5 groups of 6. Won’t be going there again in a hurry. TIT
Played Gymkhana today, first time for a few months. The course is now in a reasonable condition and worth your time if you are looking for a practice round in a good location- 9 hole course.
Not the easiest course with plenty of trees to punish the errant shots.
Downside, the usual suspects were out again. Very few on the course mostly twosomes but all were held up by the “members 6” ridiculous that it is allowed and more ridiculous that members are not aware of the problems and annoyance caused to to other players. Apparently they are there every day, perhaps one of the reasons the course is underused ?
Just my 2 sense!
Now the rains have started all the courses should start to look really good. Played at Alpine yesterday and it looked absolutely stunning- only wish my golf matched the course (-:
Green fee 600 baht, caddy fee 220 baht.
They have had rain recently so course condition much improved.
All major courses have the specials, the 800 baht + caddy fee is the norm for the festival.
However, even better deals:
Gassan Lake City Mon/Wed/Fri just 500 baht inc caddy fee!
Inthanon-800 baht inclusive caddy fee.
Gold Canyon two month special-call them
First of the tournaments is at Mae Jo on 1st May followed by Highlands on the 8th May-see forum for more details.
All the major courses in Chiang Mai will be taking part in the ChiangMaiGolfFestival.com where green fees will be only 800baht per round. Caddy fees will be determined by individual courses.
Very good for the likes of Royal ChiangMai/Alpine/Highland etc but not so good for Stardome where the fees will actually go up, not even sure why a 9 hole course even qualified! TIT
It also appears that each of the courses will be holding a tournament, we will post details later.
Tee off after 1pm and green fee, caddy fee & golf cart all just 1,000 baht!
18 holes at Gold Canyon 520baht including caddy fee, nice course though a little dry-time of the year! Apri/May
Inthanon- 36 holes for 599 baht + 2 caddy fees (200X2).Just less than 1000 baht for 36 holes-if you can mange it in this heat. Ends 30th April.
At the end of day 2 Tiger lurks just two off the pace but it’s brittania who currently rules with Lee Westwood & Ian Poulter heading the pack at 8 under.
Quite a number of the big names on their heels and the next two days should be exciting. But if Tiger pulls it off- what a comeback that would be!
